HOMES IN SANTA MARGARITA
Santa Margarita is one of the few towns left in California where nearly
everyone knows everyone. Founded in 1897, Santa Margarita is a charming,
family-friendly community that has somehow escaped blatant urbanization.
While you might find a few restaurants, a liquor store, feed store,
veterinarian, lumber yard, most of your basic conveniences, there are
no stop lights!
The population of Santa Margarita
makes it the perfect "small town" because it offers plenty of
room to breathe. The number of residents has just recently grown above
the elevation. For years they were both at 1100, but now the population
is a whopping 1300!
While the years have brought many changes to most of Central California,
Santa Margarita has managed to retain its rural character. Nestled
into rolling hills and expansive cattle ranches, Santa Margarita appears like
someplace out of a storybook, yet it's located just northeast of San Luis Obispo
and Cal Poly University. It's south of Atascadero, along U.S. Highway 101,
near Santa Margarita Lake.

rainfall of Santa Margarita is typically around 20 inches, with frost
appearing from November through March. In the spring, the surrounding
hillsides are truly something to behold, luscious green meadows,
thick with gorgeous wildflowers.
